I don't think I've ever been more confident about a recommendation. EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert is a terrific film.
Can I coax you out of your living room and to a movie theater? Even if it's been a year or more. It's worth the effort. I promise you.
When director Baz Luhrmann was making Elvis (2022), with Austin Butler as Presley, he found out there were about 60 boxes of footage hidden and protected in salt mines in Kansas. They included concerts, rehearsals, interviews, and behind the scenes activity.
Luhrmann and his people then crucially tracked down missing audio, from many sources, even bootleg.
EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert is a documentary dream of a movie. Luhrmann is able to capture the human personality behind the myth. Elvis didn't write songs, but he was smart and creative.
He was a showman in perpetual motion. First and foremost, he loved music -- as a teenager he bought Mario Lanza and opera.
He viewed each performance as new, and his musicians were constantly evolving. The consistent power of his voice was incredible.
EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert catches the spirit of the man behind the showman. He was more intelligent than people might have guessed.
Luhrmann uses close-ups to great advantage. Elvis had a constant sense of humor. Luhrmann captures his bemused smile and his sharp awareness. He seems to be a good guy who is decent and gentle.
EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert is an emotional experience.
I guarantee some ladies will fall in love with Elvis again.
