The following is the introduction to the interview as it appeared in Voices from the Set: The Film Heritage Interviews (2000).

Born in Kansas City, Missouri. Robert Altman has directed more than fifty films, including M*A*S*H, McCabe and Mrs. Miller, The Long Goodbye, California Split, Nashville, The Player, and Short Cuts. Altman has been nominated for four best director Oscars, He received Cannes' Golden Palm Award for M*A*S*H in 1970, Cannes' best director award for The Player in 1992, and the New York Critics awards for best film and best director for Nashville in 1975.

The Altman interview was in Palm Springs, California, on the set of Three Women. Published in the Winter 1976-1977 issue of Film Heritage.
